The Usual Suspects of Summer Hair

Summer is a beautiful time of year in fact, a lot of people would agree it is their favorite season, although, your hair might beg to differ. Hair color can often times fade or become a much different color then what you started with, but what if there were a few small things you could do to keep your summer color in tact?

  1. Everyone has heard of the “chlorine green”. Most pools have showers, always rinse the hair with cool water before taking a dip. This will fill the hair shaft with water and therefor less chlorine can penetrate, thus preserving your color. When getting out of the pool rinse again, this will rinse away any unwanted residue of chlorine from the hair and make your colorist and wallet very happy.
  2. If you are laying on the beach, when you go to protect your skin from getting too much sun also protect your hair! Leave in conditioners are full of SPFs. Stick a bottle in your beach bag and spray on your hair, if no leave in is available you can make it! Using a half a cup of spf 50 to one and a half cups of water.
  3. When your skin is a little itchy when you get out of the ocean imagine what it is doing to your hair? This is because of mineral salts found in the ocean, you can help keep them from getting into the hair by rinsing with water first and then putting conditioner in the hair, and rinsing with water again when you get out. Salts are an abrasive and they can wear your hair’s tone and  shine down. You should always check your shampoos for sodium (salt), if they have it in it stay away as it will surely fade your color and roughen up the hair.

So keep these tips in mind and your hair will suffer less, saving you time and money so you can enjoy more time in the summer sun!

The perfect finishing touch on any bride is her hairdo. Wedding hair can be very elegant, and yet still creative. This is why on Sunday, May 6th, the DS Parada design team worked closely with photographer David Williams to collaborate an angelic look for two beautiful brides on their big days.

Done by Vicki Holt, a stylist here at DS Parada, a romantic but traditional victory roll was the perfect style for one of our brides. Vicki topped it off with a handmade veil, which is the perfect accessory for any bridal budget and is also a great project for a fun bridal shower!

Another great bridal look is an elegant upsweep with tosseled curls and a raised fringe. Jennifer Cooper worked with another bride on Saturday to show off this style. All the stylists at DS Parada take pride in all of their hair styles just as much as they do their bridal updos. Get The Look!

Get The Look! The rumpeled braid is one of the “Hot Mess” looks that will prove to be strong this spring and summer. Perfect braids tend to look old fashioned. The messiness makes it more youthful. Dishevled hair is taking on a more deliberate quality this spring.

To achieve this look, First part the hair on one side, pull into a tight ponytail at the nape of your neck. Second, back comb the ponytail loosely and than loosely braid it. Secure at the bottom. Pull apart the strands slightly for that dishevled look. Go crazy, have fun, look great and stay cool this spring and summer.

Male Gray Blending

As we ring in the new year……there are some great things happening in the world of male hair. First of all cuts are becoming more of a pampering experience then an in and out type of thing, also longer hair for men is back in style, men want to look clean cut but not as if they just got their hair cut. We are finding that more men like to go to an upscale hair salon rather than your local “chop shop”. (more…)

Combating Winter Hair Woes

Winter can be horrendous on the hair, from dry frizzy hair to dull looking color. There are many ways to combat these unwanted, untimely issues. With just a few tips you can transform your hair into absolute beauty.

Winter is the moisture season, and hair masks are the way to go. Putting a hair mask on once a week will make all the difference in the look and feel of your hair. A hair mask is a treatment in between your regular shampoo and regular conditioner. So, shampoo, rinse, hair mask, rinse, condition, then rinse. Putting your regular conditioner on top of the hair mask helps flood the hair with nutrients, while protecting the hair from the elements at the same time. Also use a leave in conditioner after towel drying the hair. This helps put a final seal on the hair shaft.

Color vibrancy is another issue we all face in the colder months, because of dryer air hair tends to look dull and lifeless. Getting a semi permanent color wash to add shine and luster is a great fix, it will have your color in tip top shape in 10 minutes. (more…)

We Know How To Party For a Great Cause…….

Thursday, October 27th, dsparada hosted the very first BNI Social Mixer.  BNI is a networking group we are members of, and stands for Business Networking International.  It is a group of local business owners who spend an hour and a half every Wednesday morning getting to know one another and educating each other about what it is that each one of us does.  Our chapter is called “The Morning Show”, and we are BY FAR, the best chapter in all of Wake County.

We decided to hold a mixer last Thursday evening and invite members from all chapters in Wake County to get to know one another and help raise moneey for an organization called Team Dykeman.  This organization is dedicated to helping families of fallen Marines.  We raised a nice chunk of change and had an amazing time doing it.  There was great food and drink, courtesy of Fork and Barrell on Falls of Neuse RD.  If you haven’t had the chance to get over there and check out their digs, we reccommend you go NOW!!!
